On a warm Autumn Day, the match commenced with a new style 4BBB Stableford format with players granted 85% of their course handicap.

The match would be decided using the best 4 scores out of the 5 pairs on each team.
The format ensured every player arrived at Bingley St Ives’ 18th tee with a chance to make a difference!

There were some standout performances from players on each side, YLCGA’s Claire Smith, Keighley GC, who was without a partner due to a late withdrawal, managed 36 points on her own... with 6 birdies included in her score! YLCGA’s Ruth Suffell, Catterick GC, contributed 30 points out of her team’s 45 points!

The YSLGA team did their very best to to catch up in such circumstances with Elaine MacGregor, Wakefield GC and Suzanne Ashmore, Woolley Park GC, contributing 41 points and local player Jayne Helliwell and Chantelle Shaw, Pontefract and District GC scoring 39 points.

Everyone enjoyed the format, with the lowest scores per team being a very creditable 35 points.
Ultimately the YLCGA’s total of 159 points from the 4 team scores selected was sufficient to win the fixture by 5 points.

Sincere thanks to the Greens Team at Bingley St Ives for presenting the course so well and the House Team for a superb meal after the match.

We look forward to our next fixture in April 2027 at the same venue.

Eighteen players met at Ilkley to play in a combined MidAm / Seniors TriAm.  This fixture came about because the original match on the 5th October was cancelled due to the River Wharfe flooding.  However, on Sunday 16th November the weather, having been extremely wet all week, was sunny and still.  The course was considerably firmer than expected and the greens were described by the players as good.
Karen Leake and I observed play from a number of vantage points around the course – notable was a pitch on the 6th hole from Sue Smith (Wetherby) that was holed for a birdie.  

It was competitive golf played in a friendly format.
The winning team was Ruth Skaife-Clarke (Pannal), Melody Svenson (Ilkley) and Georgia Holden (Huddersfield) with a score of 152
The runners up were Lynn Wass (Selby), Alison Kelly (Cleckheaton) and Emma Tipping (York) with a score of 155.

As an add on there was an individual par 3 challenge.  Ilkley has 5 par 3s all very different, and 3 of them in the first 5 holes.  Cath Lake (Fulford), Kerry Lamb (Tankersley Park) and Melody Svenson (Ilkley) matched each other with a score of 15.  Cath achieved this with 2 birdies!

The conversation was lively following the match with everyone enjoying a Sunday roast.
