YSLGA 2nd Team v Derbyshire - 28th July at Chevin Golf Club

Our second team travelled to Chevin Golf Club in the very picturesque Amber Valley to take on Derbyshire in our annual fixture. The format was 4BBB matchplay with handicap allowances.
Supported by our President Karen Leake (Oakdale GC)and our Acting Hon. Secretary Gill Travis (Crosland Heath), the following players took to the course in search of a win!
Alison Clark (Ganton) & Julie Parry (Pannal)
Elaine MacGregor (Wakefield) & Chris Davies (Flamborough)
Jayne Helliwell (Bingley St Ives) & Ali Kelly (Cleckheaton)
Kate Dunham (York) & Sophie Jacob (Pannal)
Jane Oliver (Abbeydale) & Mary Pat Moore (Bingley St Ives)
We were up against some very good golfers who knew the extreme slopes and tribulations of the course very well and despite some excellent golf at times, we were not successful, losing 4 1/2 to a 1/2 with Jayne and Ali just missing out on an eagle at the last to win their match!
The host club laid on some wonderful hospitality after the match and it was clear that, despite the result, it was a really enjoyable day, played in a wonderful spirit.
Thank you to everyone from Derbyshire Golf and Chevin Golf Club who made us feel so welcome. We look forward to welcoming Derbyshire to Garforth Golf Club in Yorkshire next year.

YSLGA and YLCGA MidAms TriAm

Eighteen players met at Ilkley to play in a combined MidAm / Seniors TriAm.  This fixture came about because the original match on the 5th October was cancelled due to the River Wharfe flooding.  However, on Sunday 16th November the weather, having been extremely wet all week, was sunny and still.  The course was considerably firmer than expected and the greens were described by the players as good.
Karen Leake and I observed play from a number of vantage points around the course – notable was a pitch on the 6th hole from Sue Smith (Wetherby) that was holed for a birdie.

It was competitive golf played in a friendly format.
The winning team was Ruth Skaife-Clarke (Pannal), Melody Svenson (Ilkley) and Georgia Holden (Huddersfield) with a score of 152
The runners up were Lynn Wass (Selby), Alison Kelly (Cleckheaton) and Emma Tipping (York) with a score of 155.

As an add on there was an individual par 3 challenge.  Ilkley has 5 par 3s all very different, and 3 of them in the first 5 holes.  Cath Lake (Fulford), Kerry Lamb (Tankersley Park) and Melody Svenson (Ilkley) matched each other with a score of 15.  Cath achieved this with 2 birdies!

The conversation was lively following the match with everyone enjoying a Sunday roast.

Thank you to all the players and to Pam Newman (YLCGA Captain) and Karen Leake (YSLGA President) for coming to support.
